Description
This collection consists of thirteen lottery tickets that were part of a fundraising scheme in 1777 on behalf of Hampden-Sydney College. The board created the Lottery Committee in April of 1777 with the tickets going on sale June 21st of 1777. In June of 1783, President J. B. Smith reported the venture as a failure.

Abstract
Each ticket has typed information on the front with a ticket number written in pen at the top. The main transcription for each ticket is, "This shall entitle the Owner to such Prize as shall be drawn against it in the Hampden Sidney LOTTERY. 1777. "
In addition to this, every ticket has some varying handwritten notes on the back.
