Description

Amsterdam; Note: see "Related Item" field for verso of map. This is the second derivative of Smith's map of Virginia. It was the only regional map in Mercator's Atlas Minor, beginning in 1628. The plate was not changed during its publication history in twelve editions, and identification of the edition depends on the letterpress on the verso of the map. In this case, the Latin language and page number indicate it was published in the 1634 edition. --From This New Founde Lande: The Henry & Kaye Spalding Map Collection at Hampden-Sydney College, 2008.
